Our Sewing Teachers

Sarah

I'm Sarah, and I've been a quilter and sewist for my whole life. My mom taught me how to sew when I was young, and I've been hooked ever since! I love to play with color and patterns, and creating something new and unique with my own hands is endlessly satisfying. It brings me joy to introduce people to sewing and give them the confidence to dive into this fun, empowering, and creative art form. There's nothing better than someone asking where you purchased something and getting to say "thanks, I actually made it!"

I am also the owner and artist behind Stone Fruit Creative, where I make one-of-a-kind quilted clothing and accessories. When I'm not sewing (or thinking about sewing), I love reading, finding the next best patio for happy hour with friends, and planning for my next knitting project.

Taylor

Hi, I'm Taylor! I've been sewing my whole life, since my mom and grandma taught me when I was little. I adore cultivating a handmade wardrobe out of fun fabrics, interesting patterns, and a whole lotta love. I’m passionate about helping others build the skills to do the same. I especially love working on those little finishing details, like a nice bias bound edge, functional zipper fly, or cute little pocket.  Whether you are just getting started or looking to refine your skills, let's sew together!

When I'm not sewing, you'll find me knitting, reading, cuddling one of my four pets, digging in my garden, or watching true crime documentaries.

Shannon

Hi, I’m Shannon! I’ve loved sewing garments and quilts ever since my mom bought our family a sewing machine when I was 12. I’m from Illinois originally, and studied Apparel Design at Illinois State. I love the joy and pride that handmade garments bring to the wearer, and love to teach others the skills needed to make their own!

I have too many hobbies, and not enough time. If I’m not sewing, I’m probably painting, gardening, or reading. Let’s make something together!

Callyn

Hi, I’m Callyn and I’ve been sewing since my undergrad in 2014. After an injury that left me unable to walk for months, I took the opportunity to teach myself to sew and I’ve been experimenting with making clothes since. I had a strong desire to learn more and refine my skills which led me to a degree in Apparel Technologies from Minneapolis College (where I met Madee!). I’m inspired by slow fashion and love to use natural and high quality textiles. This led me to make and sell one size fits most blanket stitch jackets under my brand, Cally. In my free time, I enjoy spending time in nature, cooking up plant-based meals, and being the personal stylist to my 1 and 4 year old nieces!

Hannah

Hi, I'm Hannah! I started sewing in middle school as a Girl Scout under the guidance of my textile artist stepmom and also took a few lessons in middle school from my great aunt Ginny. But I didn't sew any garments until I got a sewing machine in December of 2019 and started a year of not buying any new clothes in 2020. I dove right into my new passion, and have made hundreds of garments since then (many at the last minute and under a deadline). I truly believe you can make anything - from jeans to underwire bras to a killer Halloween costume to multiple wedding gowns.
