Join us for a 6-week long workshop that will walk you through all the steps of sewing the Bouquet Nine Patch Quilt by Matchy Matchy Sewing Club.
This class will be held on Tuesday mornings beginning on September 22nd, for 6 weeks (see below for dates & times).
THE CLASS
In this class. you'll learn to quilt from square one from our very experienced quilter and sewing teacher, Shannon. You will learn techniques and best practices for piecing, basting, binding, and quilting, all of which can be applied to future quilting and garment sewing projects. You'll also gain comfort and familiarity with the sewing machine.
This Bouquet Nine Patch quilt pattern is a great starting point for any beginner quilter. It plays on a simple wildflower bouquet concept, combining nine patch blocks and half square triangle blocks to create a stunning quilt. In this class, you'll a throw quilt measuring 44x56" (or smaller if you wish).
⭐ Note that you may need to set aside some time to work on the project at home in order to stay on track with the pace of the class.
You'll leave with a finished quilt, a ton of new skills, and the confidence to start working on your next project.
SKILL LEVEL
This class is intended for Confident Beginners - you should know how to thread a sewing machine, wind the bobbin, and do basic stitching. It's ok if you haven't sewn a garment or used a sewing pattern before!
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
This class will cover the following skills:
✿ How to read a quilt pattern
✿ Choosing a color palette for your fabrics
✿ Cutting precise pieces with a rotary cutter and straight edge
✿ Using a scant 1/4" seam allowance to achieve accurate measurements
✿ Creating a "quilt sandwich" with batting and a backing
✿ Using a walking foot to machine quilt your layers together and/or hand quilting
✿ Creating your own binding to finish the edges of your quilt
✿ Techniques for both hand and machine quilting
✿ And lots more!
WHAT'S INCLUDED
The quilt pattern is included in the cost of the class. You'll also receive a digital file (and instructions) so you can re-use the pattern as many times as you want in the future.
You should plan to purchase fabric and notions in the shop on the first day of class. You will learn about color palettes for quilting, and then have time to pick out your fabrics!
If you have your own sewing machine and want to use it, feel free to bring it with you (just make sure you have all the components including bobbins, foot pedal, etc). If you prefer, you can use one of our studio machines. We will also provide sergers.

Classes and private lessons are non-refundable.
As a small business, we rely on sewing classes as part of our financial strategy. Our classes often fill up far in advance, and it can be difficult to fill a spot on short notice.
Of course we understand that things come up (even last minute!), so we ask that you read and agree to this policy before signing up for a class.
If you are no longer able to attend a class you signed up for, please email us at hi@openstudiosewing.com to let us know. If your class has a waitlist, we will do our best to fill your spot. If we are able to fill it before the class date, we'll issue you a refund in the form of store credit or to your original payment method. Store credit can be used for retail purchases or for future classes, and does not expire.
If we're not able to fill your spot, we will not be able to issue a refund.
If you are in a multi-session class and need to miss a day, you will not be able to make up the missed class. You're welcome to work on your project at home or book studio time to work on your own during shop open hours, or a private lesson (depending on availability) to get support to catch up.
