Join us for a 6-week long workshop that will walk you through all the steps of sewing the Rue Quilt Coat by Spaghetti Western Sewing.
This class will be held on Wednesday evenings beginning on September 23rd, for 6 weeks (see below for dates).
THE CLASS
The Rue Quilt Coat is inspired by nonnas, vintage house coats, workwear, mischief, and mornings you can’t be bothered to get out of bed so you take the bed with you.
The pattern comes in an adult and kids size range and features a retro-inspired collar, dramatic split side hems, bias tape finished seams, patch pockets, and long sleeves for cuffing. It has an intentionally relaxed/oversized fit. In our class, you'll have the option to use pre-quilted fabric or to quilt your own.
⭐ Note that if you decide to quilt your own fabric, you'll need to set aside some time to finish the quilting at home in order to stay on track with the pace of the class.
You'll leave with a finished coat, a ton of new skills, and the confidence to start working on your next project.
This pattern is size inclusive and is designed to fit chest measurements up to 60.5".
SKILL LEVEL
This class is intended for Confident Beginners - you should know how to thread a sewing machine, wind the bobbin, and do basic stitching. It's ok if you haven't sewn a garment or used a sewing pattern or serger before!
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
This class will cover the following skills:
✿ Taking your own measurements & interpreting a size chart
✿ Using and adjusting a sewing pattern
✿ How to quilt your own fabric for the coat
✿ Pressing techniques for a neat finish
✿ Working with bias tape
✿ Bias-finished edges
✿ Sewing a collar
✿ Using closures (ties or snaps)
✿ And lots more!
WHAT'S INCLUDED
The Rue Coat sewing pattern is included in the cost of the class and will be printed for you when you arrive. You'll also receive a digital file (and instructions) so you can re-use the pattern as many times as you want in the future.
You will need to purchase fabric and notions in the shop before the class. Come by and we'll help you pick out something suitable that matches your style!
If you have your own sewing machine and want to use it, feel free to bring it with you (just make sure you have all the components including bobbins, foot pedal, etc). If you prefer, you can use one of our studio machines. We will also provide sergers.

Classes and private lessons are non-refundable.
As a small business, we rely on sewing classes as part of our financial strategy. Our classes often fill up far in advance, and it can be difficult to fill a spot on short notice.
Of course we understand that things come up (even last minute!), so we ask that you read and agree to this policy before signing up for a class.
If you are no longer able to attend a class you signed up for, please email us at hi@openstudiosewing.com to let us know. If your class has a waitlist, we will do our best to fill your spot. If we are able to fill it before the class date, we'll issue you a refund in the form of store credit or to your original payment method. Store credit can be used for retail purchases or for future classes, and does not expire.
If we're not able to fill your spot, we will not be able to issue a refund.
If you are in a multi-session class and need to miss a day, you will not be able to make up the missed class. You're welcome to work on your project at home or book studio time to work on your own during shop open hours, or a private lesson (depending on availability) to get support to catch up.
