Learn to sew clothes with us! ✨
Join us for a 6-week long workshop that will walk you through all the steps of sewing your first garment, from introducing you to the sewing machine all the way though completing your first sewing pattern, made to fit you (and you get to choose which one)!
We will provide a variety of shorts and pants options for you to choose from (see the images to get an idea, and see here for the list of options)! You can choose to go simpler, making a garment with no pockets, or more complex, inseam and patch pockets, and other details if you choose.
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
In this 6-week class, we will work at your own pace and cover the following:
✿ Threading a sewing machine and stitching
✿ Taking your own measurements
✿ Using and understanding a sewing pattern
✿ Making pattern adjustments
✿ How to choose appropriate fabrics for your sewing project
✿ A variety of garment construction techniques
✿ Serger skills
✿ And lots more!
You'll leave this class with all the skills you need to take one of our Confident Beginner level workshops, so this is a great option if you have an eye on one of those workshops but don't have basic sewing skills yet.
WHAT'S INCLUDED & WHAT TO BRING
You'll have the option to bring your own sewing machine if you'd like to learn to use it, or to use one of our studio machines. We'll also provide sergers for students to use.
You'll need to purchase the sewing pattern(s) you choose to make, as well as fabric and notions for your project. We will help you determine what you need and select appropriate fabrics after the first class.

*This class is open to adults ages 16 and up.*
*Please note that our shop will be open until 6pm, during the first hour of the class.*

Classes and private lessons are non-refundable.
As a small business, we rely on sewing classes as part of our financial strategy. Our classes often fill up far in advance, and it can be difficult to fill a spot on short notice.
Of course we understand that things come up (even last minute!), so we ask that you read and agree to this policy before signing up for a class.
If you are no longer able to attend a class you signed up for, please email us at hi@openstudiosewing.com to let us know. If your class has a waitlist, we will do our best to fill your spot. If we are able to fill it before the class date, we'll issue you a refund in the form of store credit or to your original payment method. Store credit can be used for retail purchases or for future classes, and does not expire.
If we're not able to fill your spot, we will not be able to issue a refund.
If you are in a multi-session class and need to miss a day, you will not be able to make up the missed class. You're welcome to work on your project at home or book studio time to work on your own during shop open hours, or a private lesson (depending on availability) to get support to catch up.
