THE CLASS
The Lottie Trousers pattern is a charming and easy-to-sew addition to any handmade wardrobe, perfect for babies and children. Designed with comfort and style in mind, these wide-leg pants feature a soft elastic waistband and sweet gathered ruffle hem. Add a functional or decorative drawstring for a personalised finish. Whether you're sewing for playtime, everyday wear, or something special, Lottie delivers style and practicality in one fun, beginner-friendly project. Please note: sewing additional details, such as the ruffle, pockets, and drawstring, will be dependent on time in this class.
You'll leave with a finished pair of pants, a ton of new skills, and the confidence to start working on your next project.
We will be sewing on both a sewing machine and a serger. You will learn techniques for sewing on both machines.
This pattern is designed to fit babies through kids around age 7 or 8 (up to 51" tall, 60 lbs, with a 22.5" waist).
SKILL LEVEL
This class is intended for Confident Beginners - you should know how to thread a sewing machine, wind the bobbin, and do basic stitching. It's ok if you haven't sewn a garment or used a sewing pattern or serger before!
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
This class will cover the following skills:
✿ Reading and interpreting a size chart
✿ Using and adjusting a sewing pattern
✿ Serger basics
✿ Pressing techniques for a neat finish
✿ Inserting an elastic waistband
✿ Top-stitching and edge-stitching
✿ Hemming
✿ Adding patch pockets (depending on time)
✿ Gathering and sewing ruffles (depending on time)
✿ And lots more!
WHAT'S INCLUDED
The Lottie Trousers sewing pattern is included in the cost of the class and will be printed for you when you arrive. You'll also receive a digital file (and instructions) so you can re-use the pattern as many times as you want in the future.
You will need to purchase fabric, and notions in the shop before the class (and you should leave time to pre-wash your fabric). Come by and we'll help you pick out something suitable that matches your style!
If you have your own sewing machine and want to use it, feel free to bring it with you (just make sure you have all the components including bobbins, foot pedal, etc). If you prefer, you can use one of our studio machines. We will also provide sergers.
This class will be taught by Callyn.

Classes and private lessons are non-refundable.
As a small business, we rely on sewing classes as part of our financial strategy. Our classes often fill up far in advance, and it can be difficult to fill a spot on short notice.
Of course we understand that things come up (even last minute!), so we ask that you read and agree to this policy before signing up for a class.
If you are no longer able to attend a class you signed up for, please email us at hi@openstudiosewing.com to let us know. If your class has a waitlist, we will do our best to fill your spot. If we are able to fill it before the class date, we'll issue you a refund in the form of store credit or to your original payment method. Store credit can be used for retail purchases or for future classes, and does not expire.
If we're not able to fill your spot, we will not be able to issue a refund.
If you are in a multi-session class and need to miss a day, you will not be able to make up the missed class. You're welcome to work on your project at home or book studio time to work on your own during shop open hours, or a private lesson (depending on availability) to get support to catch up.
