THE CLASS

Sew your own blanket stitch coat! In this workshop, we'll use both machine and hand sewing techniques to make a cozy and stylish Wren Jacket by Style Arc Patterns.

You'll leave with a finished garment, a ton of new skills, and the confidence to start working on your next sewing project.

This pattern is size-inclusive and is designed to fit chest measurements from 30.3" to 67.75".

SKILL LEVEL

This class is intended for confident beginners - you should know how to thread the sewing machine, wind the bobbin, and sew in a (relatively) straight line. It's ok if you've never completed a project or used a sewing pattern before. We'll provide lots of guidance and support to ensure a successful and confidence-boosting experience. Those with more skills are welcome to take this class as well!

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

This class will cover the following skills:

Taking your own measurements
✿ Using and adjusting a sewing pattern
✿ Sewing patch pockets (optional)
✿ Understanding and sewing facings
✿ Hand blanket stitch (a decorative and functional stitch that can be used to embellish sewing projects)
✿ Serger basics (depending on fabric choice)
✿ Skills for sewing with wool (depending on fabric choice)
✿ Understitching, topstitching and edgestitching
✿ Inserting sleeves
✿ Adding snaps and/or buttonholes (depending on time)
✿ And more!

WHAT'S INCLUDED

The sewing pattern is included in the cost of the class and will be printed for you when you arrive. You'll also receive a digital file (and instructions) so you can re-use the pattern as many times as you want in the future.

Hand sewing needles and yarn for blanket stitching are also included.

You will need to purchase fabric and notions before the class (we'd love for you to purchase them at our store, and will also share some additional recommendations via email once you've signed up). Come by and we'll help you pick out something suitable that matches your style!

Recommended fabrics for this project are Melton, boiled wool, or wool coating/suiting. We recommend a fabric that doesn't fray at all! If you have a wool blanket you've been wanting to turn into a coat (or want to thrift one!), this would be a perfect opportunity to do so.

If you have your own sewing machine and want to use it, feel free to bring it with you (just make sure you have all the components including bobbins, foot pedal, etc). Please reach out if you have any questions about what you need to bring.

This class will be taught by Callyn.

-Please note that our shop will be open to the public during this class.
-This class is intended for adults ages 16 and up.

If the class you want is sold out, join the waitlist to get first dibs if a section is added or a spot opens up.

Refund & Cancellation Policy

Classes and private lessons are non-refundable.

As a small business, we rely on sewing classes as part of our financial strategy. Our classes often fill up far in advance, and it can be difficult to fill a spot on short notice.

Of course we understand that things come up (even last minute!), so we ask that you read and agree to this policy before signing up for a class.

If you are no longer able to attend a class you signed up for, please email us at hi@openstudiosewing.com to let us know. If your class has a waitlist, we will do our best to fill your spot. If we are able to fill it before the class date, we'll issue you a refund in the form of store credit or to your original payment method. Store credit can be used for retail purchases or for future classes, and does not expire.

If we're not able to fill your spot, we will not be able to issue a refund.

If you are in a multi-session class and need to miss a day, you will not be able to make up the missed class. You're welcome to work on your project at home or book studio time to work on your own during shop open hours, or a private lesson (depending on availability) to get support to catch up.

Thanks for understanding and supporting our shop! ❤️
