Confident Beginner: Petal Dress, August 22 & 23

This class will run Saturday, August 22 & Sunday, August 23, from 10am-5pm each day (or earlier if finished).

THE CLASS

The Petal Dress by Soft Bodies Studio is a lightly oversized, gathered dress with a dramatic, curved bodice. Easy, breezy, and trans-seasonal - the Petal Dress can be easily dressed up or down, and its roomy armscyes leave room for lots of layering (hello puff sleeves, turtlenecks, and baby tees!!!) Inspired by both the soft curves of a petal and the sharpness of armor, Petal is a shockingly versatile pattern that works just as well for the beach (in linen or a breezy cotton) as it does at a wedding (think organza, taffeta, or silk). This pattern comes with multiple length and cup size options for a custom fit.

You'll leave with a finished dress, a ton of new skills, and the confidence to start working on your next project.

We will be sewing on both a sewing machine and a serger. You will learn techniques for sewing on both machines.

This pattern is size-inclusive and is designed to fit chest measurements up to 64" and waist measurements up to 54".

SKILL LEVEL

This class is intended for Confident Beginners - you should know how to thread a sewing machine, wind the bobbin, and do basic stitching. It's ok if you haven't sewn a garment or used a sewing pattern or serger before!

✿ Serger basics
✿ Sewing curves
✿ Edge-stitching & top-stitching
✿ Pressing techniques for a neat finish
✿ Gathering/sewing ruffles
✿ Bias-bound necklines & armholes
✿ Sewing inseam pockets
✿ And lots more!

WHAT'S INCLUDED
The Petal Dress sewing pattern is included in the cost of the class and will be printed for you when you arrive. You'll also receive a digital file (and instructions) so you can re-use the pattern as many times as you want in the future.

You will need to purchase fabric and notions in the shop before the class (and you should leave time to pre-wash your fabric). Come by and we'll help you pick out something suitable that matches your style!

If you have your own sewing machine and want to use it, feel free to bring it with you (just make sure you have all the components including bobbins, foot pedal, etc). If you prefer, you can use one of our studio machines. We will also provide sergers.

This class will be taught by Shannon.
