Intermediate: Minimalist Shirt - November 15 & 16

This class will run Saturday, November 15, and Sunday, November 16 from 11am-6pm each day.

Sometimes our workshops end a little early, because we allot plenty of time to ensure everyone gets to finish their garment!

THE CLASS

Let's sew your first button down! 🪡 The Minimalist Shirt by Tropical Research is a timeless, oversized, goes-with-anything top with a button placket, collar, front patch pockets, and back yoke. You'll learn lots of intermediate-level sewing techniques to help you level-up your skill set - but this pattern is definitely on the simpler side for a button down, with minimal shaping and no sleeve plackets. You could also lengthen the pattern and make it a shirt dress or light jacket.

You'll leave with a finished shirt, a ton of new skills, and the confidence to start working on your next project.

This pattern is designed to fit chest measurements between 30" and 47".

SKILL LEVEL

This class is intended for intermediate sewers - you should feel very comfortable threading a sewing machine, winding the bobbin, stitching in a straight line and backtacking, and hemming. You should also have sewn at least a couple garments and be comfortable using a sewing pattern. It's ok if you haven't used a serger before.

✿ Serger basics
✿ Patch pockets
✿ Simple pleating
✿ Burrito method for sewing a shirt yoke
✿ French seams
✿ And more!

WHAT'S INCLUDED

The sewing pattern is included in the cost of the class and will be printed for you when you arrive. You'll also receive a digital file (and instructions) so you can re-use the pattern as many times as you want in the future.

You will need to purchase fabric and notions in the shop before the class (and you should leave time to pre-wash your fabric). Come by and we'll help you pick out something suitable that matches your style!

If you have your own sewing machine and want to use it, feel free to bring it with you (just make sure you have all the components including bobbins, foot pedal, etc). Please reach out if you have any questions about what you need to bring.
